Sorry, that’s not right.
Bald eagles are actually no longer an endangered species! In fact, the American Bird Conservancy calls their recovery the greatest success story of the Endangered Species Act. Initially threatened by the pesticide DDT, which caused the shells of their eggs (and those of other fish-eating birds) to become so thin that they would crack before hatching, bald eagles are now a relatively common sight in the Philadelphia area, including here along the tidal Delaware River.
